Larry Rowdon Poetry Book
Launch
On Saturday, February 18th, a
book launch and memorial was held at the Ottawa Baha’i Centre for Larry
Rowdon, poet, writer, painter, father, husband, and Bahá'í.
Larry’s Rowdon last book of poetry, Blue Heron Rising, entrusted to
Bruce Filson before his passing in 2001, was recently published by
Filson’s publishing company, September Pines. The evening was well
attended by both friends and family, which included Larry’s three
daughters, Ayn, Ruth and Leslie and two granddaughters.
Ayn and members of the Ottawa Writer’s Group read many beautiful early
and late poems from the book and shared funny anecdotes and moving
stories about Larry, punctuated by the soulful Persian music provided
by Amir Parsa and Armin Rahmanian and deftly hosted by Jack
McLean. The evening was a heartwarming success, and Larry’s
gentle spirit could be felt in the room.
It is important to note that Larry was well-known and published outside
of the Baha’i community as well, most notably by Borealis Press.
Although all available copies of Blue Heron Rising – an elegant
hardcover volume in royal blue with gold lettering – were sold, orders
can be taken at the Baha’i Centre bookstore, and more copies are
forthcoming. The book sells for $19.00 (taxes included), and
each volume of the print run is numbered, which makes it a very special
purchase in more ways than one.
