For the last twenty-five
summers, the Rideau Ottawa Bahá'í Schools Initiative (ROBSI) has
organized fun-filled, Bahá'í-inspired summer camps in the Ottawa area.
Each July up to five different week-long programs are offered to
children and youth. Campers come from near and far - some even return
each year from Africa and Europe to attend! Why? Because kids love
ROBSI!
This year's theme, Learning in God's Creation, will provide many
exciting opportunities for campers to explore their place as spiritual
beings living in the world of nature. Prayers, songs, games, bugs and
canoeing all contribute to an overall amazing and rewarding experience
for all ages.
At the Junior and Senior camps (ages 8-12), which are held in a
woodland setting a short drive north of Ottawa in beautiful, historic
Ladysmith Quebec, children aged eight to twelve live in a supportive
community, canoeing, swimming, hiking, engaging in arts activities as
well as attending classes on this year's theme.
Young teens (ages 13 - 14) love attending Murphy's Point Canoe Camp,
near Perth Ontario. Here they practice camping and canoeing skills
while building a strong camp community and engaging in study of the
Baha'i Writings.
Slightly older teens (ages 15 and older) are always excited to take on
the challenge of the overnight canoe trip, where participants spend a
week camping, canoeing and portaging on the Mississippi Lakes system
near Perth.
The counsellor-in-training program is run in conjunction with Junior
and Senior camp, in Ladysmith, and allows young counsellors the
opportunity to take on increasing levels of responsibility.
Counsellors-in-training spend time caring for and directing younger
campers and studying Bahá'í teachings in a camp-style classroom
setting, as well as practicing their camping and canoeing
skills.
This year, as part of it's 25th anniversary celebration, ROBSI has
added a special four-day family camp with renowned story-teller Louise
Profeit-LeBlanc. You are invited to come, join the fun and explore
nature from a spiritual perspective through stories, art and guided
woodland activities. All ages are welcome.
